My presentation to the latest European Council for Fatwa and Research meeting, which was held last week and of which I am a member, focused on Islamic education in Europe and the west in general. The main point, which I wanted to share here, is that students of Islamic knowledge in the west should NOT go to the east to learn about Islam, except for a very limited time. Traditional Islamic educational institutes, except for a few exceptions, teach their students ideas and ideologies that have quite a negative impact on Muslims in the west and in Muslim-minority countries. Besides, tyrannies that govern Muslim-majority societies will simply never allow Islamic educational institutes to develop themselves in a balanced or authentic way, and therefore Muslims in the west and in Muslim-minority countries must build their own Islamic educational institutions and have the courage to design their curricula away from both, political and religious tyranny
